'Cancel NEET too': Opposition after UGC-NET cancelled fearing irregularities

 The Opposition on Wednesday pressured the BJP-led NDA government to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 examination after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled UGC-NET exam due to fear of irregularities.

On late Wednesday evening, the NTA issued a statement, saying that the UGC-NET exam conducted on Tuesday, June 18, is cancelled as the "integrity of the examination may have been compromised".

In a post addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, "You (PM Modi) do 'pariksha pe charcha' a lot, but when will you do 'NEET pe charcha'? The cancellation of UGC-NET exam is a victory of the spirit of lakhs of girl students. This is the defeat of the arrogance of the Modi government due to which they made a despicable attempt to trample the future of our youth."

"The Union Education Minister had earlier said that no paper was leaked in NEET. When arrests are made of education mafia in Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana, the Education Minister accepts that some scam has taken place. When will the NEET exam be cancelled?" he added.

The cancellation of UGC-NET exam comes amid the ongoing controversy around the irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 examination, where questions were raised regarding the grace marks awarded to certain students who then went on to top the exam.

Another Congress leader Karti Chidambaram tweeted, "Cancel #NEET too! The examination is devoid of integrity."

"The laxity and corruption of the BJP government is fatal for the youth. After the news of scam in NEET exam, now the NET exam held on June 18 has also been cancelled due to the fear of irregularities. Will accountability be fixed now? Will the education minister take responsibility for this lax system?" asked Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The Aam Aadmi Party said, "Not a single examination is being conducted without rigging and paper leak under the incompetent BJP government. This government is causing great harm to the future of the country. Crores of students of the country are sinking into the darkness of despair every day."
